Wired E-Detective System Application

Wired E-Detective system is applied in a LAN network. It is installed behind the firewall and normally it is plugged into a core switch with port mirroring function where all other ports are mirror to that particular port connected to E-Detective system. High speed hub can also be used in place of port mirroring capable switch.

 

Wired E-Detective system has the function of sniffing (capturing and recording) network packets from the LAN network. It decodes the packets captured and arrange them into exact format (real content) as being sent or received. The Internet protocols that wired E-Detective system can decode are Emails (POP3, SMTP, Web Mails - Gmail, Yahoo Standard and Beta, Windows Live Mail/Hotmail etc.), File Transfer (FTP, P2P), Telnet, Instant Messenger/Chat (YAHOO, MSN, ICQ, AOL, QQ, Skype VOIP Logs), HTTP URL Web Browsing, VOIP and Webcam (Yahoo and Windows Live*) and others. Besides able to decode, reconstruct and display the exact content, wired E-Detective system can allow user (admin) to set notification/alert rules (such as alert by keyword) where network administrator will be inform when the condition met. Furthermore, wired E-Detective system can create report so that the administrator has a clear idea of application usage, throughput and network behavior of every staff on the network. Besides, functions such as search and data mining which are available can be useful to administrator for searching a specific parameter or keyword.

 

Note: Only Windows Live* Webcam session is supported (can be reconstructed). Window Live VOIP session is not supported because the content is encrypted.
